The Story
RAPTURE, the fourth & final FALLEN novel, is the Lauren Kate book the world has been waiting for.
The sky is dark with wings . . .
Like sand through an hourglass, time is running out for Luce and Daniel. To stop Lucifer from erasing the past, they must find the place where the angels fell to earth.
Dark forces are after them, and Daniel doesn't know if he can do this - live only to lose Luce again and again. Yet together they face an epic battle that will end with lifeless bodies . . . and angel dust. Great sacrifices are made. Hearts are destroyed.
And suddenly Luce knows what must happen. For she was meant to be with someone other than Daniel. The curse they've borne has always and only been about her - and the love she cast aside. The choice she makes now is the only one that truly matters. In the fight for Luce, who will win?
The astonishing conclusion to the FALLEN series. Heaven can't wait any longer.
The Review
When it comes to one of my favourite book series, I find that last books are always the hardest to impress me, especially from my own experiences in the past where some books ended better than others. Now for Lauren Kate's book RAPTURE, the last installment of her bestselling Fallen series, I was pretty anxious to get my hands on a copy of it, not only because I was dying to find out the epic conclusion to the Luce and Daniel love saga, but because with everything that these two characters have been through, all I really wanted was a truly bittersweet ending for them both and for the rest of the characters too!
In RAPTURE, Daniel, Luce, and the rest of the fallen angels aiding their quest are yet again in a race against time where they must find the exact spot where they first fell to this earth in order to put a stop - once and for all - to Lucifer's plans of erasing their past lives. Following up from the previous installment, Passion, Luce has experienced many of her past lives that she shared with Daniel through the Announcers, and for once she's slowly beginning to remember what exactly had brought them together in the first place and by the end of this book, she will also finally get to learn why her love for Daniel was so doomed to begin with before it had even begun . . . which will changed everything in her past, present and future!
As much as I wanted to love this book for what it is, unfortunately I was quite disappointed with it. Don't get me wrong here because the book was actually very well-written and it dealt well with its pacing and storyline but as I was reading along the book, at certain points I was getting really confused with the blended-in mythology, a little bit bored and at other times too I often found myself feeling as if this book was lacking something in particular . . . not sure what it was exactly but this 'feeling' didn't help me in the way I felt about the ending either, the one I was hoping for all along. Now from other blog reviewers, many readers loved the ending and I respect that because the ending was written nicely but with me being the little overachiever and having higher expectations than others do, I felt with everything the characters have been through, all of the hardships and the deaths that they have encountered in the past, I was kind of hoping for more to happen in the ending, you know? It was still a good ending but it just wasn't my favourite ending for the finale of a book series since some stories were closed and others were left too opened-ended.
To make up for this loss though, in terms of the main and supporting characters, everyone I've come to love over time has really upstepped their game. Absolutely everyone, I'm not kidding here. From Gabbe all the way to Cam they were full of awesomeness. As for the main character, Luce (or Lucinda), I have to say I loved her way more in this book and she truly shined in it too compared to the other three books in the series. As she's slowly becoming more open to the possibility of her true origins (I totally knew what she was!), before Daniel and before everything else, I have to say that aspect of her made herself even more likable, so I was pretty happy in that perspective because we all know she can be an up and down character for readers.
For Daniel's character, the true love of Luce's present and past lives, he was a nice little surprise too. Truth be told I was more a Cam fan (I mean seriously who isn't?), but Daniel became a far more likable character to me as Luce did in this book alone. Sure he's forever frustrating but still . . . he was totally likable. I loved him not because he was hot (okay maybe that part of the reason why) but rather it was because he was the only boy character who wanted to fight for the sake of true love and boy oh boy he does it with all his might. Then, of course, there's the supporting cast of many, many characters . . . so whether or not we lose some or say to goodbye to others in a much better way than death, it's up to you to go and read it, and to find out for yourselfs who lives and dies! Trust me there will be some tears!

Overall, the last Fallen installment, RAPTURE, will certainly entertain you no matter what happens in the book! Will you worry? Yes. Will you love? Yes. Will you cry? Of course. Will the ending satisfy you? Maybe. Maybe not. But while the ending may not have been a favourite of mine, but it's undeniable that many fans of Lauren Kate will be pleased with this final installment and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what else she'll write up next for us to read!
Like my new rating stars? Let me know in the comments. Needed something different. My old stars were looking well . . . old.
ReplyDelete"I find that last books are always the hardest to impress me."
ReplyDeleteOh, this is a SERIOUSLY interesting point for me! You know, I don't think I've ever read a series where it wasn't finished and I back-to-backed it, or where I've actually finished it yet. I think Rapture will be my first!
I'm SO excited to finally have the time to read this, but I'm SO trepidatious and hesitant. I'm glad you liked it, sorry it wasn't love :(
The new stars are CUTE! ♥
Thanks! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this book Sarah! I'm sure you'll love it! After all . . . it does have a nice little ending. A cute one in fact.
DeleteNew stars are cuter than the last ones! :)
ReplyDeleteOkay so technically I shouldn't be doing this - reading reviews of Rapture since I haven't even finished reading Torment! But I'm relieved that you have it 3.5 stars..that means it will be a good ending! :)
Thanks! I've been looking for cuter stars for while now and thankfully I finally found a nice pair to add to the blog. :)
DeleteIt definitely has a good ending rest assured. Hope you enjoy the rest of the series!
I can totally see why you were disappointed. For me... I LIKED this book, and enjoyed the ending more. Like, the very very ending. I would have preferred something with a bit more OOMPH when.... (okay, so I was totally crossing my fingers for an all-out war. Deathly Hallows tainted me!), but I thought Lauren concluded the last few pages beautifully. And I admit, made me a little teary!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I totally wanted more Cam at the end. Caaaaam :( FANTASTIC review and I love the new stars! ADORKABLE!
