The Story

"Every single lifetime, I'll choose you.

Just as you have always chosen me. Forever."

Before Luce and Daniel met at Sword & Cross, before they fought the Immortals, they had already lived many lives. And so Luce, desperate to unlock the curse that condemns their love, must revisit her past incarnations in order to understand her fate. Each century, each life, holds a different clue.

But Daniel is chasing her throughout the centuries before she has a chance to rewrite history.

How many deaths can one true love endure? And can Luce and Daniel unlock their past in order to change their future?

The Review

In the previous novels Fallen and Torment, we've been given clues about Luce and Daniel's past lives and the curse they bear. For those who've read this series so far, we know that we sometimes get Daniel's side of the story, through his eyes, and I was really happy when I read PASSION and read alternating chapters with two different perspectives - Luce and Daniel's perspectives. It was a nice change to get away from one character and see what's going on with another. Torment left readers on a major cliffhanger, with Luce jumping into an Announcer and determined to find answers. Throughout PASSION readers will see glimpses of Luce's past lives, journeying further and further into the lives shared with Daniel. Little does Luce know there are angels and nephilim, with Daniel also hot on her trail, who are desperate to catch up with her before she ultimately . . . rewrites history. And rewrite her own future self.

First things first! I give a huge applause to Lauren Kate for writing multiple history eras because she dealt with them so very well that I, myself, felt surprised! From Italy to England, Tibet to Egypt . . . the history between Luce and Daniel is endless. It was great to see a variety of Luce's and Daniel's, along with the sometimes-civilized and sometimes-barbaric surroundings and even see how the couple came together and how they were torn apart. But like most novels, and while this is a semi-prequel to the Fallen series, I found myself some problems with the book. One of them was the supporting characters. Gosh I missed the supportings character like CAM and MILES! Sure they made some little appearances but no . . . they were hardly in it! *sigh when I think Cam got so little appearances* Another problem for me was the god-damn ending! What the hell is wrong with you Ms. Kate! Why must you torment me?! And what the hell with Bill?!?! BILL?!?! I . . . well, I won't say anything more. It would be spoilery.

As expected, nothing was really solved in this book. Nothing like I hoped. But there's one thing readers will love - we did learn a lot more about Luce and Daniel. Understanding Daniel more so and the reason behind why he's the way he is. As for the main character, Luce, while she remains a little selfish, a little annoying, and a little clueless at times, but I did appreciate that she made some decisions on her own without Daniel having his say. Even with the villain and the ending itself being pretty predictable and tad bit disappointing . . . but I can definitely tell that the fourth and final installment RAPTURE is going to end with a climatic showdown and I'm looking forward to seeing what Lauren Kate brings up next onto the table! Pretty please add more CAM!

  1. I am so looking forward to reading Passion. I enjoyed Fallen, but not as much as I thought I would. I couldn't even get passed Torment, so you would think that I would hate this series, but I can't wait to see how Lauren Kate tied everything together and I can't wait to read about their past together. Great review!

  2. Me too!!! I missed the secondary characters so much! I wanted more Cam and Arriane :( If I'm completely honest, Daniel and Luce are far from my favourite characters in the series. I've always preferred everyone else, but I still enjoyed the book. I loved Bill! Well, once some things were revealed... it's certainly a different interpretation of 'that' than I'm used to (if that makes any sense LOL). But even so, I quite enjoyed what be brought to the story.

Hoping for an epic showdown and lotsa CamArrianeRoland in Rapture! Great review :D
