Wake Unto Me by Lisa Cach

Release Date: 31st March, 2011

Publisher: Speak

Pages: 304pgs

The Story

A haunted castle, a handsome young man dead for four hundred years, one heck of a scary portrait of witch, and a treasure hunt - not to mention a princess for a roommate! - all await 15 year old American girl Caitlyn Monahan when she earns a scholarship to a French boardin school.

There are secrets behind the stone walls of Chateau de la Fortune, buried for centuries along with the mystery of who killed Raphael, the charming ghost who visits Caitlyn at night. But as Caitlyn unearths the history of the castle, nothing scares her as badly as the secret she learns about herself, and the reason she was chosen to come to the Fortune School.

And nothing breaks her heart as badly as falling in love with a dead guy.

The Review

WAKE UNTO ME is an absolutely intriguing read from Lisa Cach. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first picked up a copy . . . all I knew it had everything I love about a book 1) It's young adult. Check. 2) It's about a haunted castle. Check. 3) It's about a romance that isn't meant to be. Check. 4) It's got something to do with dreams. Check. And finally 5) It's got something to do with history and dreams put together. Check. Check. Anyone who loves what I mentioned above then this is your kind of book!

Caitlyn Monahan doesn't know what's wrong with her. All she knows is that she doesn't fit in, not with her friends, and certainly not with her own family. When she gets the chance to move to France, where she will attend a fancy French boarding school . . . it's the perfect chance to escape her town of Oregon. But unlike most boarding schools . . . there's something not right. Caitlyn is having strange dreams of a boy named Raphael. While it may freak the rest of us out, but she doesn't mind as her dreams bring her closer and closer with him. The question is: How can she truly be with him when he's from the past and she's from the present? And how does Caitlyn dream of him? Is there something of the supernatural behind them?

Okay, where do I begin? I can honestly say that the beginning of the novel was a little hard to get into . . . just a tiny bit. But once the chapters came together and you end up flying past them all to the end, WAKE UNTO ME was a pretty amazing read! Sometimes I was confused by Caitlyn and how exactly she dreams of Raphael and other whatnot . . . but by the end everything was cleared up nicely and she became a very likeable character. Now, when it comes to the past - Raphael that is - boy, that BOY is sooooooo hot! No wonder Caitlyn loved him because I loved him too! He was so sweet and I know many will love him as well when they get a chance to read this book.

WAKE UNTO ME is a perfect read for anyone who loves a little bit of dreaming sexy boys. *smirks* The story itself has a lot going for it and it makes me wonder whether there'll be a sequel. But overall, it would make a perfect standalone. Anyway, Lisa Cach did a perfect job of crafting this world of hers - tying both the present and past together. The mystery wasn't predictable at all and by the time I reached the ending . . . it had me on edge and not to mention I was glad that everything was cleared up at the end as well. For those wondering yes or no to this book, I think it'll appeal to anyone. Can't wait to see what Lisa Cach writes next!

  3. HOT boy? France? Boarding school? History? Dreams? Starcrossed lovers? Geez, way to sell me on a book :P I'm so much more interested in reading this now! I'd read some mixed reviews so I wasn't sure, but I trust your judgement and that collection of awesomeness in one novel? Swoonage. Great review!
