THE ETERNITY CURE is the long-awaited sequel to Julie Kagawa's bad-assery of a book, The Immortal Rules, and boy it was most definitely worth the wait! With how The Immortal Rules ended, with Allison (Allie) Sekemoto finally reaching Eden only to leave her human companion and love, Zeke, behind in order to search for her vampire sire, Kanin, who is captured and being tortured by one of the most (and psychotic) vampires (boy that was a mouthful) . . . it not only left readers gasping but it also left us wanting more and more of this fang-tastic world of Kagawa's.
While I still did prefer the first book over this one, but what I always love about Julie Kagawa's writing - no matter what book it is - is the fact that her world-building is flawless and everything in her books is so well-plotted out that I always wonder how she comes up with all of this amazing stuff! I don't know how she does it but she's a genius, especially when it comes this series. But in saying that, what I also loved in this book was how Kanin, Allie's vampire sire, was featured so much more than I ever expected of him and as you all know . . . I'm helplessly in love with Kanin (TEAM KANIN ALL THE WAY) no matter what everyone says about him when comparing him to Zeke. I mean, Zeke is good, adorable and all of that, but with Kanin . . . there's just something so wonderful (and sexy) about him and I love his protective nature of Allie. I just LOVE him okay!
As for Allie herself, what can I say? She's still that stone-cold, kick-ass, all-inspiring protagonist and I love all of the conflicting emotions she feels throughout the book. Yes, she does have her trust issues and places her well-earned trust in the wrong places, but there's so many layers to Allie's character and I love discovering those little surprises about her along the way - whether they're human or not. Then there's Zeke. Now I absolutely love Zeke (maybe not as much as Kanin though) because he was very innocent in The Immortal Rules but now he has changed for the better I found . . . he's tougher, wants to seek revenge (who doesn't love a little revenge, right?) and he is more than willing to take more chances, even when it comes to Allie. But all in all, all I can say is every single character in the book surprises you and will continue to surprise you in the best ways possible, no matter if they are villains or a heroes or a little bit of both.
Overall, THE ETERNITY CURE is nothing but a first-class book with plenty of action to keep you on your toes all the way through.

I hear you with Kanin. Part of me likes that he's remained more of a mentor/father to Allie (although that did change somewhat by the end of the book). But I did love the memory where Kanin squirmed as he explained that two vampires might bite each other in a sensual manner (I think I'm remembering that right). i wonder if that hints anything in the 3rd book.
ReplyDeleteOh yes THAT 'sensual manner' hehe. Awkward. I think Kanin will never be a love interest for Allie but all I can do is hope. I just love him to bits and he seems more than just a mentor and father figure to Allie, you know?
