The Story

Sometimes discovering the truth can

leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

The Review

I've been wanting to read this book for AGES especially since I've been a big fan of this author and of her Slammed series (which are EPIC books mind you), however her next book was only available on kindle so I was a bit 'Oh, how sad . . .' since I don't own a kindle . But, fortunately enough, I was still able to read this book as I bought myself an iPad mini just before Christmas so I was really lucky in that respect and considering the price I bought the eBook for . . . it was SO worth the money!

HOPELESS was just - to put it simply - an awesome and awe-inspiring book! Both emotionally-challenged, achingly beautiful and well-written in all aspects, the story was brilliant because of how the story was actually written and how it was completely driven by its characters and the events passing between them - the good and the bad kind So with everything coming together - the secrets and the romance, it was just yet another book gem coming from a very talented author, Colleen Hoover. She, in all honesty, has become one of my favourite contemporary authors of today and remains so with this new book of hers!

The two main characters, Sky and Holder, may not be perfect and DO have their faults, but all in all I thought they were amazing together. Even as individuals. So while these mentioned 'faults' of theirs and the causes for them are not entirely revealed until the very end of the book, but it in no way did it affect my love for them. Even when Sky became confused in her own feelings and even when Holder became aggressive and began calling Sky 'Baby' and 'Babe' most of the time, which, as you know in all of my boy characters who end up saying those nicknames end up really getting on my nerves. But as for Sky's character, I loved her a lot (despite her leading guys on in the beginning of the book) and her voice was just so . . . engaging, poignant, and so real to me which I guess made me love her even more. And as for Holder, Sky's main love interest, despite his usual guy moods and confusing feelings, he ended up becoming a really great love interest. A really supportive one at that. He was just always there for our Sky and there was this great chemistry too sizzling between them, and really, what more can you ask for than great chemistry from a guy? Yup, he was a total sweetheart and a really protective one too.

Overall, HOPELESS offered more than I originally bargained for and the twists in it alone will make you desperately gasp for breath. So be prepared for a real shocker reveal for the main characters because it's quite heavy to even comprehend. All in all, if you love Colleen Hoover's books already or are looking for another great and emotionally-driven contemporary read with great characters with great chemistry, then I would highly recommend this book to you all! It was an absolute standout for me!

  2. EEEEP ERIN. I finished this book like a week ago and I can't even explain how much I loved it. I still desperately need to read Hoover's 2 other books, but I'm getting on that soon. ;) I completely agree with you; the characters in this book were just phenomenally relate-able. The ending was definitely jaw-dropping but also perfect. I'm so happy to hear that you read this one and loved it. Wonderful review, Erin! :)
