This is my third blogspiration post! I hope you enjoy this next quote!
Now I don't know about you guys but I've made some wrong choices - here and there - in my life. But the main thing is . . . you SHOULDN'T have to regret them! In fact, I certainly don't because life is all about mistakes and learning to live by them, right? So when it comes to this quote in particular, I find it's all about unconditional acceptance and learning how to say to yourself, "Sure, I've made mistakes. It's not a bad thing. Use those mistakes to create something better for yourself." It really does help you!
As for these wrong choices leading to something greater and using an example of my own, when it came to my last year of high school I wanted to go to university straightaway after graduation but instead . . . I took a year off and another year off to search for something that I didn't know too much about (which can also be known as what I wanted to do with my entire life) which - according to what I wanted back in high school - wasn't my plan at all. Did I regret that decision I made? Maybe. Maybe not. I mean, maybe I should have done that course I got into after high school because I would have finished it by now but . . . I already made that choice in not attending university as of yet and I'm glad for that wrong choice I made because now, with me now attending university, I've learnt quite a lot about myself as a person and I'm much more mature now too . . . so my wrong choice ended up coming the right one for me and I'm thankful for it.
So I guess what I'm trying to say here is that this quote, at least to me, means we got to remind ourselves every once in a while of our own past mistakes and see how - once we experience them - our goals or whatever plan we lay out in front of ourselves doesn't necessarily always go our way and that's a good thing I reckon. Life isn't about getting everything you want and plan for (unless you're really lucky hehe) . . . it's about working hard to achieve those goals! For me and what I do constantly, I always go back to that WRONG CHOICE I made in the past - whether I like it or not - because it gives me a greater perspective of myself and allows to me to see where I want to go next.
So what about you? What inspires you today?
Love the quote and on your comments on it. I've been in that situation where I've made a choice which I later deemed as the "wrong" one but it turned out alright and I had no regrets. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. Good to hear! I think most people have been in this situation at one stage in their life.
DeleteOhh, I love this post Erin! And you are right. I did made wrong choices in my life, everybody does, but that makes us who we are. It shapes us :) I was bullied and I never stood up for myself; wrong choice, but in the end, it made me who I am today and I'm pretty happy with that :p The only thing you should regret are the things you didn't do.
ReplyDeleteMel@thedailyprophecy.
Thank you. Exactly! It the wrong choices is what shapes us and I'm glad everything turned out very well for you in the end. :)
DeleteSo true Erin. Everyone makes mistakes, but what you learn from them, from any of your choices/life events, make you who you are and hopefully you won't make that same mistake again. You'll instead make a whole lot more awesome mistakes that will lead to great things :)
ReplyDeleteI knew after school that I couldn't handle doing uni right away, and I did an Interior Design TAFE course instead. I didn't end up doing it for a career, but for the time I did do it, I enjoyed it and I learnt a lot. I since started a TAFE course and only lasted two days because I really wasn't committed to it at all.
Every job I've gotten I've gotten without a degree, and they've all been great for me for a time. If and when I DO decide to do further study I know that I'll be doing because it's right for me and I'm ready for it.
The time off, as you said, has made you mature - your teachers and future employers will recognise this and reward it for you, and it will also make a great difference in your life. Knowing in the past that decisions like this have ended up working well for you, you'll be that much more confident in making decisions like this in the future too.
Like you, after my break I went off to TAFE and did my business diploma, which got me back into uni after completing the course. Everything - including those mistakes I made - has worked out well for me so far. So now I'm looking forward to the future opportunities I can get.
DeleteThank you. :)
I really like that quote. I always feel like maybe I made the wrong choices in regards to my education - went to the wrong sixth form, picked the wrong A-levels, didn't study hard enough - but I think you just have to make the most of the situation you're in. You can do well wherever you are if you put your mind to it, I think - it's just having the motivation to do it and not think about whether you'll make another mistake! :P Thanks for sharing this with us :).
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly it! We all have to make the most of what we got and do well in whatever you do. Thanks Liz!
DeleteCompletely agree Erin, and I think this is such a healthy (ugh, that sounds lame, but I can't think of a better word - postive? helpful?) way of looking at life. I know for me, sometimes choices I've made have taught me more about who I DON'T want to be, and sometimes I've made choices that I look back on now and think, "Ew, what were you thinking Alex?" but those choices reflected where I was at and what I wanted at the time, and like you said, I can learn from that and keep on moving on.
ReplyDeleteReally love this post!
Thanks Alex! That's exactly how I think . . . despite the mistakes or bad decisions we've made in the past we just have to move forward. :)
DeleteI love this quote and think it's so true. I have to remind myself of this constantly though. I'm one of those people that likes to be perfect (BAHAHA! I know, right?!) and hates making mistakes or wrong choices. But, it's nice to remind myself I'm allowed to be human. And I can definitely look back on "wrong choices" that brought me to beautiful and "right" places. Thanks for sharing Erin!
ReplyDeleteI'm a perfectionist too. I need to get every right but . . . exactly what you said . . . we need to be human once in a while.
DeleteThanks Kristen!
